Pendant is 1 5/8 inch long and 3/4 inch wide and is sold separate from the silver snake chain shown. A fun fact about lapis lazuli is that it was once ground into a fine powder and used to create the vibrant, deep blue pigment known as "ultramarine." This pigment was highly prized by artists during the Renaissance, and due to its rarity and expense, it was often reserved for painting the robes of the Virgin Mary in religious artwork. In fact, ultramarine was considered more valuable than gold at one point, making lapis lazuli a gemstone with not only historical but also artistic significance!
